Seas Prestige Tweeters are available in various sizes, ranging from 19mm to 25mm voice coil versions and using different surround lengths and faceplates. SEAS also offer the prestige tweeters in a variety of dome materials, including textile, aluminium and titanium. Each component which makes up a SEAS tweeter, the dome material, magnet, surround is all produced on site at seas headquarters in Oslo Norway.
The rigid chassis(front plates) on all prestige tweeters are constructed via a specialized technique called injection molding and are constructed of glass-filled, construction grade plastic. All of this enables each and every SEAS tweeter to be made to a high standard, both acoustically and cosmetically. And because all components of the driver are produced at SEAS, custom design and branding can be achieved very efficiently. And to protect the delicate membrane dome found in aluminium dome tweeters, all SEAS prestige aluminium dome tweeters are protected via a mesh grill.
ALL SEAS Prestige tweeters are available with magnetic fluid in 2 different viscosities which drastically reduces heat transfer while the driver is in operation.
Cone Drivers:
SEAS Prestige cone drivers typically are based around injection moulded zinc chassis and range from 12cm to 26cm in width. This type of construction allows for durable protection and because each chassis is powder coated, the cosmetic quality of the cone drivers are of a high grade. So not only do they perform well, they are pleasing to the eye also.
SEAS Prestige Cone Surrounds are available in various materials and consistencies including low loss natural rubber and high loss natural rubber surrounds, each specific to its driver mating.
Spiders:
SEAS Prestige impregnated fabric material spiders in general are flat, with a light stiffness which provides excellent linear control for the cone and voice coil. Each spider used in all of Seas speakers are made in house with perfection in mind when designing and producing each component.
Voice Coils:
A vital element of a speaker and Seas take pride in each and every voice coil they produce.Voice coils are commonly made out of copper wire and have a plastic coating which enables the coil to withstand temperatures of 220 to 260 degrees without disintegration. CCAW(Copper Clad aluminum wire) voice coils are also available in the prestige range and are typically used for applications were lower moving mass is required. Most cone drivers incorporate a two layer voice coil, except for a few instances. In these cases, four layer voice coils are prescribed to the driver.
Dust Caps and Phase Plugs:
The dust cap is another important component in a speaker driver and directly effects their performance, especially at high frequencies. This is where SEAS really show how capable they are at producing world class speaker drivers. Seas soft dust caps are produced with various combinations and paper formulations and are also available in a textile form. Each dust cap is specifically formulated for each driver, leaving nothing to chance.
Phase Plugs are an excellent alternative to dust caps, and the SEAS Prestige range offer a wide range of drivers incorporating these plugs. They improve ventilation throughout the voice coil assembly, cooling critical parts and improving power handling and performance.
Magnet Systems:
The magnet systems are based on high quality barium ferrite magnets and soft steel parts which are perfectly formed and constructed. This ensure incredibly accurate and tight dimensional tolerances in critical areas of the driver. These parts are bonded with a two part adhesive.
For those of you who wish to place your speaker near a CRT, SEAS offer a range of shielded magnet systems prefitted to drivers. SEAS also offer individual shielding kits.
Assembly Process:
Due to the excessive amount of precision required work involved in the assembly of a speaker driver, Seas have utilized the latest technology in automated application equipment. While all the components of the speaker are in place, a customized jig clamps around each driver, holding all components in place while the adhesives set and cure.
