Standard solders generally use flux agents containing halogens that attack cable strands and the connector. To melt solder it is often necessary to create such high temperatures that the chemical composition of the dielectric is changed. To prevent unwanted conditions associated with soldering, WBT's crimping method is preferred. If a solder connection must be made, then the use of WBT solder is preferable. WBT 4% silver solder uses halogen free flux with an extremely low melting temperature to prevent the release of halogens from the dielectric.
